Official Acts of Faith

Rites of passage and sacraments are official acts in the Church for major events in life such as Baptisms, Confirmations, Weddings and funerals. You'll find a wealth of certificates, crosses, crucifixes, Bibles and books with inspirations for these occasions.

Rites of Passage - Christian Gifts for the most important Events

Here, with the term "rites of passage" we highlight four important events which we traverse in the course of our lives. Those rites of passage belonging to the Protestant Church comprise of Baptism, Confirmation, Weddings and funerals. In contrast, in the Catholic Church Baptism, Communion, Confirmation, Weddings as well as burials are included. The difference specifically is in Confirmation in the Protestant Church and in Communion and Confirmation in the Catholic Church. In our Online-Shop you'll find a special gift for each of these equally special steps.

Baptism - The first Step towards the Church Congregation with a Certificates for Godparents of Baptism

By far one of the most important events is the Baptism itself which makes a person of the faith a Christian and also determines which Christian congregation they belong to. In a formal Church service the person being baptised is asked about their and must also reject Satan. As in most cases those being baptised are children and babies, their parents and godparents take the responsibility for this. They decide which congregation the child will belong to and thereby their way into Christian life. During the Baptism, the person being baptised has blessed water poured over their head which is supposed to symbolise the waters of the Jordan. There Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist, who later became an Apostle. Additionally, the oil of the Catechumens is used which is a fragrant and acts as a symbol for the healing and strengthening through God. We offer a wide range of Christian gifts for Baptisms: Certificates for Godparents, Certificates of Baptism, Baptism Candles and much more!

Confirmation and Communion - The Admittance into the Congregation

Confirmation is another integral rite of passage which is performed at the age of approximately 15 years. In a formal Church service multiple young people attending the Confirmation are admitted into the congregation. From then on, they can take part in the Holy Communion and can consider themselves a part of the Church. They're prepared for this moment for months where they go far beyond knowing only the basics about the Church, Church services and their congregation. Values and standards are imparted upon them which they can carry with them in their everyday lives. In Confirmations in the Catholic Church the Holy Ghost descends upon those being confirmed. The Bishop anoints the confirmand with the oil of the Catechumens which the young person experienced previously at their Baptism. Even if these two rites of passage are somewhat different to each other they have one thing in common. They symbolise the transition from childhood into adulthood, whereby the young person thoroughly contemplates their faith beforehand. In the Catholic Church both rites of passage, Communion and Confirmation, are celebrated separately, whereby Communion takes place approximately at the age of 9 and Confirmation around the age of 15. In contrast, in the Protestant Church only the Confirmation is celebrated. With Communion children are allowed to attend mass for the first time. Here they are allowed to consume bread and wine which through transubstantiation becomes the Body and Blood of Christ. In many Churches it is also customary that children receive grape juice in place of wine. In the month long preparation the children learn lots of interesting facts about the Church, the sequence of the Church service as well as the last supper.

Weddings - The joining of two Souls

This rite of passage is one of the most magical events in the life of a couple; the wedding! When the bride walks down the aisle and the congregation's choir starts to sing it isn't only the bride and groom who let out a few tears. In this formal Church service the couple is saying "yes" to each other. The wedding isn't just one of the most magical rites of passage in the Church, but also one of the most important professions of love. The wonderful promise before God to honour, care for and love your partner is never forgotten.

A Summary of Rites of Passage in everyday Life

Rites of passage are official acts of tremendous importance in both the Catholic and Protestant Churches. They pave the way of the Christian faith and are celebrated in a formal Church service with the congregation. In view of contemporary society alongside these four rites of passage, more everyday events could be counted which are also important and formative for people. Among these are the first day at school, the entrance into the world of work or passing your driving test for example. Pastors and priests are often called upon for the inauguration and blessing of bridges, hospitals or new cars nowadays. With these examples, people realise that you don't always need a Church service to administer a blessing. Having said that, these rites of passage are an integral part of the Church which to this day are still very popular and at the same time have a long tradition behind them.
