Interview with general manager Bianka Maier
“Firstly, young people need prospects for the future; secondly, I want to have reliable and well-trained employees.”
“Certificates aren't that important, but support is all the more so. I am responsible for ensuring that everyone completes their training. That means learning together is sometimes necessary.”
“Yes, of course. But it's precisely the others who need a chance. Of course, it's not always easy. Often, fundamental issues need to be addressed first, such as punctuality, diligence, being fit for everyday life, openness to new ideas, and dealing honestly with mistakes. The only thing that helps is to talk, motivate, talk, and address problems again and again, but it's worth it.”
One of our former apprentices did not have a secondary school diploma despite several attempts. He passed his exams at night school and completed an apprenticeship with us as a warehouse clerk, achieving good grades. We work closely with a large freight forwarding company for the third year of training, which then took him on and provided him with further training. Today, he is married and the father of a young daughter. What would have become of him without this apprenticeship? We are very happy and proud that we were able to contribute a little to his life taking this course."
"We start with small, solvable tasks, which then gradually become more complex and extensive. This helps them gain self-confidence, which is motivating. However, it's not just the trainees who benefit. Since then, I have been paying more attention to my own behavior and am more aware of it—after all, you want to be a good role model. It also brings a breath of fresh air into the company, and the “old hands” realize how much they have already learned. It's a great joy and enrichment that anyone who doesn't train others is missing out on!"
